I am a poet based in Canberra, Australia. I have also been at various times a Ph.D student in Japanese History, a teacher of English as a Second Language, a lawyer, a tea maiden, a tour guide, a barmaid, a software salesperson, a legal editor and a law teacher.
I have two sons, one of whom has autism. I have been writing poetry for a long time (see my general poetry blog at www.melindasmith.wordpress.com) but have only started to write poems about autism relatively recently. I have been lucky enough to get a grant from artsACT, the local arts funding body, to write a collection of autism-themed poems which will be coming out in April 2012 (Autism Awareness Month). The working title of that collection is CircleQuirk and this blog is its online home.
